Gastrointestinal Issues and Impacts on Pediatric Feeding Disorders

This course focused on describing the history and the four domains of Pediatric Feeding Disorder (PFD), what the role of the Gastroenterologist (GI) is in treatment, five reasons why a child may not grow, what an Aerodigestive assessment is and how it's managed, how to manage constipation and appetite, and provided case studies to further understanding.

Dr. Richard Noel was born in Mexico City and grew up in San Antonio, TX.  He has MD/PhD degrees from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and did a residency in Pediatrics at Wake Forest University in NC.  He trained in Pediatric Gastroenterology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center where he developed an interest in working with children with pediatric feeding disorders.  He worked for 10 years at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin with Dr. Colin Rudolph and then transitioned to Duke University where is currently Division Chief for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition.

Brianna Miluk, MS, CCC-SLP, CLC is a speech language pathologist and Certified Lactation Counselor who focuses on pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders. She especially loves serving infants and medically complex children. Bri strives to provide treatment that builds on responsive feeding approaches, is multidisciplinary, and considers a child's zone of proximal development and principles of neuroplasticity. She primarily works in the home health setting and enjoys mentoring future and current SLPs interested in PFDs.
