Pediatric Oncology

This course focused on describing the common types of pediatric cancer, how cancer impacts feeding and swallowing skills, the various types of treatment for pediatric cancer, cancer treatment side effects on speech, feeding, and swallowing skills, and the Speech Language Pathologist's (SLP) role in pediatric cancer.

Bio:

Kristin earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is the Director of Rehabilitation Services at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and has nearly 10 years of experience as a speech-language pathologist, with 8 years devoted exclusively to pediatric oncology/hematology. Her research interests include rehabilitation for patients with posterior fossa syndrome and the comprehensive management of feeding and swallowing disorders in childhood cancer patients and survivors. Through mentorship, presentations, and even her Instagram (ped.onc.SLP), Kristin strives to make evidence-based information about childhood cancer easily accessible to SLPs and applicable to their clinical practice.

Brianna Miluk, MS, CCC-SLP, CLC is a speech language pathologist and Certified Lactation Counselor who focuses on pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders. She especially loves serving infants and medically complex children. Bri strives to provide treatment that builds on responsive feeding approaches, is multidisciplinary, and considers a child's zone of proximal development and principles of neuroplasticity. She primarily works in the home health setting and enjoys mentoring future and current SLPs interested in PFDs.

Brianna Miluk, MS, CCC-SLP, CLC
